After one and a half days of talks, there’s no result yet about what may be the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague future. Of course, things like an expansion were discussed, but nothing ultimately was decided or voted upon.
The main issues on the first-day agenda had to do with the management and the clubs of the competition. Ultimately it was more about what happened so far in the post-Bertomeu era than anything else and the way things are done and should be done.
On the other side, the expansion is an issue that concerns the 2024-25 season, so there’s still time to take crucial decisions.
No Dubai yet
On a meeting that ultimately provided few updates on what’s already known and not final results, which are now de facto expected at the general assembly which usually is held at the end of June or the start of July, one news-worthy bit of information is that the Paris, London, and Dubai possible expansion are still scenarios that are examined and not decided upon.
Especially in the case of Dubai, on which reportedly a decision might have been expected in late March, there wasn’t even a new presentation of the project to the shareholders.
And practically, nothing changes for the clubs which will compete in the 2023-24 season in the EuroLeague on an 18-teams format. Monaco has already secured one of the two EuroCup spots and three wildcards will be given, with the ABA League champions having priority and Virtus Bologna, Partizan, and Crvena Zvezda being the favorites to get them, while Valencia will probably play next season in the EuroCup. The rest of the 13 spots are allocated to A-License teams.
