Facundo Campazzo returning to Real Madrid was not the case midway through the 2022-23 season and after the conclusion of his NBA run, but is expected to finally materialize ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Campazzo, 32, has a deal in place to rejoin the Whites, according to Relevo. In an odd turn, the agreement was completed in Barcelona before the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 29 game between archrival FC Barcelona and Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet on 17 March, a few weeks after he became eligible to play at the continental level, as noted in the report.
Resurfacing in the EuroLeague following 113 previous appearances with Madrid including two championships, the Argentine was brilliant in nine appearances as a member of the Belgrade powerhouse. Backed by a 24-point season-finale outing, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per contest. Besides the continental to the regional level, he posted 14.3 points, 6.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 2.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per AdmiralBet ABA League game.
The team based in Spain’s capital considered the reunion in December but eventually lost rights to Campazzo. The experienced point guard was coming off eight games played in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks alongside former Madrid teammate Luka Doncic early in the 2022-23 season. He made his way to 144 appearances between the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons with the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokic, after his departure from the storied club currently coached by Chus Mateo.
