Barcelona star guard Cory Higgins will undergo surgery to “solve the lumbar problems he’s suffering from”, the club announced. It’s not yet determined when the 33-year-old player will be able to return to action while the EuroLeague Final Four is held in Kaunas, Lithuania in two weeks (19/5 – 21/5).
Higgins will most likely miss the Final Four for the first time in his career after six straight participations (excluding the canceled 2019-20 season) since 2015-2016 when he debuted in the competition with CSKA Moscow. He won the EuroLeague that year and in 2019.
On 16/4, Higgins exited the ACB Clasico of Barcelona vs. Real Madrid early with lower back pains and hasn’t played a game since. He missed the EuroLeague playoff series against Zalgiris Kaunas where the Blaugrana swept their opponents 3-0 to move to the Final Four.
So far in 2022-23, Higgins averaged 8.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 19:49 minutes in EuroLeague, along with 9.8 points and 2.2 rebounds over 17:25 minutes in 16 Spanish League games.
