Olympiacos coach Giorgos Bartzokas couldn’t hide his disappointment after losing the 2023 EuroLeague Final.
As he said in the press conference: “The result is bad for us. There isn’t much you can say about the match. We controlled the pace, Real played a zone in defense. We had a lot of good decisions against the zone. In the last 2-3 minutes we had the chance to increase the difference, but we missed shots and made mistakes. They stayed close to the score and in the end, with Sergi and Llull they won the match.
Bartzokas admitted that this defeat has left him with a sour taste: “It’s a painful feeling for us, the world, and our whole season. We beat Fener in the semi-final as well and lost with a buzzer-beater, just like last year with Efes. That’s basketball. They are true Champions”.
He also talked about what he said after the game to the players in the locker room and on the way to Olympiakos: “All the faces were down. I told them to hold their heads up and be proud of the effort and basketball they played. I don’t want to talk about the budget. We had a strong team and great numbers and wins. We had bad luck. We have the Championship ahead of us and we want it, just as we wanted the Euroleague. We have to close the season in the best way”.
