KAUNAS, Lithuania – “No, no, no. Impossible”, Chacho Rodriguez commented in the mixed zone to the media after winning the EuroLeague regarding Sergio Llull’s earlier statement, in which he said that was his “first winning shot”.
The 36-year-old playmaker was crucial for Chus Mateo’s team in order to capture the 11th EuroLeague in Real Madrid‘s history. “I was guarded by a very good defender like Thomas Walkup, so the best way was to let him free in the corner. I believe that Tavares, Mario [Hezonja], and especially Llull saw very well the precise play”, he added after going very close to a double-double with 15 points and 9 assists.
“Incredible. It’s probably the best game of my life. We’ve been very good at believing in victory, and that’s a resounding thing. At some point in the game, we were doomed. We thought it was possible because the experience of previous matches against Partizan and Barcelona helped us”, the three-time EuroLeague champion commented.
He also took some time to send a message to his fans back in Italy, where he played for three years with Milano. “I’m very lucky to have been in Milan for three years with people who love basketball and with the passion that there is. I’m one of you”, Sergio Rodriguez said.
