One of the great unknowns for the coming season for Barça seems to be resolved.
As reported by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo and Eurohoops sources are able to confirm, Sarunas Jasikevicius is willing to continue to lead the team next season by accepting a significant pay cut to his salary.
The disappointment in the EuroLeague Final Four Kaunas shook the ‘Saras project’, but the club and Lithuanian coach are near an agreement for a contract extension.
Jasikevicius’ fourth year as Barça coach will be very different from the previous ones, at least as far as his salary is concerned.
Despite the fact that Saras’s will was to continue with Barcelona, this could be only possible after a reduction that is estimated to be 80% of his salary compared to this season – Mundo Deportivo reports that could be even 90% -with the club in need to cut expenses in the basketball section.
And what remains in question is winning titles. Despite returning Barça to the European elite and managing to be in three consecutive Final Fours, after many years of disappointment, Jasikevicius’ project ultimately couldn’t deliver.
In the last three seasons, Barça has only managed to win one Spanish League title and two Copas del Rey, and this year their only chance for a trophy remains winning the Spanish Liga Endesa.
