CSKA Moscow’s coach Dimitris Itoudis gave to sports.ru a long and thorough interview covering every subject and of course the new Euroleague format.
As he said: “To be honest I haven’t understood yet the exact form of the new league, but I believe that both Euroleague and FIBA want the best for basketball. It’s sad to see a conflict between them. Basketball is a sport that I love and needs new ideas. Euroleague has proven to be a great competition and I expect it to grow even more. You can see also that in the end of the season only one team can be considered succesful, the champions, and everyone else is a loser. You can do everything right and destroy it all in one game. It’s really sad”.
That’s why Itoudis wants also an other change in the format: “It will be ideal to follow the NBA format. The champion should be decided in a series of games also in the semifinals and the finals. I have said that also to mr. Bertomeu and those are my personal opinions, not of CSKA. I am sure that the Euroleague will consider them and will adopt a playoffs system”.
