Right before the start of the ACB Finals against Real Madrid for the third straight year, rumors started to heavily appear over Nikola Mirotic’s situation. According to Emiliano Carchia from Sportando, his move to Olimpia Milano for next year is a done deal, but the player’s entourage denied the information.
As reported by the Catalan Esport3, FC Barcelona decided to rescind the contract with Nikola Mirotic, who still had two years with Sarunas Jasikevicius’ team, to reduce the salary level of the club. However, as anticipated, no deals with Milano or any other European team are in place at the moment.
In the 2022-23 EuroLeague season, after coming back from an Achilles injury starting from Round 11 against ALBA Berlin, the former Chicago Bulls forward had 15.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, shooting 60.3% from two, 39.2% from three, and 80.4% at the line.
At 2023 Final Four in Kaunas, Nikola Mirotic had a losing effort of only 3 points in the semifinal against Real Madrid, putting up 15 in the loss for the 3rd place against AS Monaco. His adventure in Barcelona, therefore, should end without a EuroLeague title.
In the domestic league, instead, he has been putting up 13.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, shooting 58.5% inside the area, 37.0% from beyond the arc, and 95.1% at the free throw line.
Mirotic joined Barcelona in 2019, after 359 appearances in the NBA between the Chicago Bulls, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the New Orleans Pelicans. Prior to the NBA run, he played for Barca’s archrival Real Madrid as a promising youngster building up his career.
