Valencia expected to remain part of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague field will feature Alex Mumbru as the head coach.
Mumbru, 44, inked a three-year contract to take over the Oranges ahead of the 2022-23 season. In his introductory press conference, the new sports director, effectively the general manager of Valencia, Luis Arbalejo confirmed the former player returning for the 2023-24 season.
Switching to the role behind the lines, Mumbru spent four years at RETAbet / Surne Bilbao from 2018 to 2022, before being hired by Valencia. The 2022-23 campaign produced a 15-19 EuroLeague record ranking 13th overall and a balanced 17-17 tally in the Liga Endesa Regular Season to narrowly clinch a Playoffs berth. Wrapping up the schedule, his side was swept by future ACB champion FC Barcelona in the Quarterfinals.
His playing days were highlighted by success at both the international level with Spain and the club level with Bizkaia / Uxue / Dominion Bilbao, Real Madrid, and Festina / Pinturas Bruguer / DKV Joventut Badalona.

Arbalejo, 41, additionally discussed his vision for Valencia.
“The challenge is very exciting,” noted Arbalejo on signing a five-year contract with Valencia, “It seems to me one of the most exciting projects in Europe, not only from the ACB. And for someone who has been linked to basketball for more than 20 years like me, and who has gone through all the levels, it is something incredible. I face it with great enthusiasm, with great responsibility and I will try to give my best version. I am very happy, how could it be otherwise”.
