ALBA Berlin signed Ziga Samar last summer for a four-year contract and subsequently loaned him out to Hamburg Towers. The talented Slovenian guard has now returned to the German capital and is set to play for ALBA in the upcoming season.
Samar displayed his durability by not missing a single game for Hamburg last season, participating in all 54 matches. He showcased his creativity by averaging 6.1 assists per game in both the easyCredit BBL and EuroCup.
Additionally, he demonstrated his scoring abilities, averaging 8.2 points in the BBL and 9.8 points in the European competition. It is evident that he has earned a chance to compete for a spot in Berlin.
“I am excited about spending a season with ALBA Berlin. I have heard great things about the organization, the strong community, the camaraderie among the players, and the excellent team chemistry. That is the main reason why I chose to be here. Moreover, I aim to take a step forward in my career and fulfill my dream of playing in the EuroLeague,” said Samar, mentioning Sarunas Jasikevicius as one of his role models.
Samar began his career in Slovenia before moving to Real Madrid in 2018, where he played two seasons with the club’s second team. He then signed with Fuenlabrada, spent a season on loan at CB Zamora, and finally earned a promotion to the first team in the ACB league for the 2020-21 season before leaving for ALBA in 2022.
