Stefan Markovic, the point guard for Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet, has announced his retirement from professional basketball. The 35-year-old Serbian brings an end to a successful career that spanned nearly two decades.

Markovic, who averaged 2.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and a PIR of 2.8 in 29 appearances during this season’s Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, spent the last two seasons with his native club, Crvena Zvezda. During his time there, he won five trophies, including two domestic championships and cups, as well as the ABA League last season.

Over his 18-year professional career, Markovic played for several notable teams, including Benneton, Valencia, Zenit, Khimki, Virtus, and Crvena Zvezda.

He holds multiple records in the EuroCup, including all-time leader in assists (698), steals (214), minutes played (3,738:01), and games started (114). He is also second all-time in appearances (142) and fourth in accumulated PIR (1,512), solidifying his status as a true legend of the competition.

Markovic’s accomplishments extend to the international stage as well. He earned three silver medals with the Serbian national team in EuroBasket 2009, the 2014 FIBA World Cup, and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
