Winning Italy’s LBA Serie A UnipolSai Playoffs concluded the 2022-23 season for EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Billy Baron. However, focusing the offseason on recovery is the next task for the experienced shooting guard.
Baron, 32, underwent surgery on Saturday, one day after helping his side edge out Virtus Segafredo Bologna in the best-of-seven Finals of the domestic league.
Updating his status with an official announcement Sunday, the team located in Milan fell shy of revealing a specific timetable, but Baron is likely to miss the start of the 2023-24 season.
Per the press release: “Olimpia Milano announces that Billy Baron underwent surgery on his right elbow, yesterday. The surgery, which had been scheduled for a few weeks, was performed by Prof. Pederzini with the presence of the club’s orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Casalini. In the coming days, the player will begin his physiotherapy recovery program in order to get ready for the next season.”
Despite battling with the injury late in the 2022-23 season, Baron averaged 10.7 points in 21 minutes per game in the series opposite Virtus Bologna. Over 38 appearances across domestic competitions throughout the 2022-23 season, he piled up 11.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per contest.
Previously wrapping up his fourth Turkish Airlines EuroLeague campaign as first as a member of the team coached by Ettore Messina, he put up 11.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. At 15-19, his side missed the Playoffs zone by a margin of four games.
