The list of players included Kevin Punter, but Panathinaikos remains among potential suitors for Tyler Dorsey.
The Greens wish to bring in the explosive guard, as previously reported by Eurohoops, and remain in the running, following Punter’s decision to join FC Barcelona.
The initial interest for Punter and lasting for Dorsey was not mutually exclusive, according to Eurohoops sources.
Hiring Ergin Ataman as the new head coach combined with a roster overhaul hoping to improve fortunes across continental and domestic competitions. The six-time champions of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague last played in the Final Four back in 2012, at the end of the spell with legendary Zeljko Obradovic in charge. In addition, they were held to runner-up status behind rival Olympiacos in Greece’s Basket League the last two seasons.
Ataman, 57, has revealed his plan for Panathinaikos. Luca Vildoza highlighting the developing list of arrivals confirms his ambitions. The experienced tactician is a fan of Dorsey and his scoring talent, which coupled with the advantages of carrying a Greek passport lifts him among the main targets moving deeper into the offseason.
Dorsey, 27, is under contract with Fenerbahce Beko until the end of the 2024-25 season. However, sitting out the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi Playoffs down the stretch of the 2022-23 campaign hinted toward an early exit from the Istanbul outfit.
The Greek club currently awaits potential developments leading to former Oregon standout parting ways with Fener. Otherwise, negotiating a buyout with the Turkish club will be necessary to complete the transfer.
