Darius Thompson is expected to be back in Europe soon for the Italian national team training camp, however, his final destination may be Athens.
After the decision of Kevin Punter to sign with Barcelona, Darius Thompson is a priority for Panathinaikos and the Greens want him to be part of their totally revamped roster which so far includes Luca Vildoza as top addition.
Getting Thompson, however, will not be an easy task. The US guard who is expected to get an Italian passport has a 600.000 euros buyout from Baskonia, however, his priority right now is to get an NBA chance.
At least for this week, he is totally focused on the NBA and after the start of July, he is expected to examine his European options.
While he has a contract with Baskonia, it seems unlikely to stay put. Last season in EuroLeague he averaged 12.6 ppg and 6.7 asp and there’s strong interest for him already, most notably from Olimpia Milano with his Italian passport being an extra asset for him if he ends up in Italy.
