Milano adds forward Guglielmo Caruso

Olimpia Milano announced that the club signed power forward Guglielmo Caruso to a contract until 2027. Caruso, who last played for Varese, will make his EuroLeague debut with his new team next season.

Olimpia Milano has reached an agreement up to the 2027 with Guglielmo Caruso, a 2.08 mt tall power forward and center, born on July 3, 1999, in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, Naples, and coming from Varese. “We feel like Caruso is an emerging player and a guy with the right personality to fit in our team, who can still improve a lot,” Olimpia’s general manager Christos Stavropoulos said. “I’m very happy and proud at the same time to have the chance to be part of a great organization, both in Italy and Europe, as Olimpia is. It will be an extremely motivating adventure. I’m here to learn from the best players and keep improving. My goal is do anything in order to help the team any way I can, grateful for this incredible opportunity,” Willie Caruso said.

WHO HE IS – Born in the Neapolitan hinterland, Guglielmo Caruso began playing in Cercola, before moving to PMS Moncalieri, in Turin at the age of 14, where he remained until 2017, also playing in all the national youth teams, taking part in five championships in each category and at the Under 19 World Championships in 2017, winning the silver medal. In 2017/18 he played for Napoli in Serie A2 and the following summer he moved to America to play at Santa Clara University in California for three seasons. With the Broncos, he played a total of 68 games over three years, including 49 as a starting lineup. In the 2019/20 season he averaged 9.7 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game. In 2020/21, he scored 9.3 points per game and 4.8 rebounds in 22.6 minutes of use. His career high is 25 points against San Jose State. In 2021, he left college with one season of eligibility remaining and moved to Varese where he played for the past two seasons. In the first he played 19 games averaging 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 9.4 minutes. In the second, he played 30 of 30 games with 9.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds and best of all had 67.1% on two-point shooting and 40.6% on three-point shooting.

NOTES – Guglielmo Caruso made his debut in the senior national team with which he scored 19 points against Spain in Italy’s 72-68 victory in Caceres on 26 February 2023. With the youth national teams, he won an Under 18 European bronze medal and an Under 18 World Cup silver 19. At the 2019 Under-20 European Championships, he averaged 13.4 points and 7.1 rebounds (seventh overall).
