FC Barcelona intends to assist Joel Parra in buying out his contract with Joventut Badalona and eventually ink him to a multiyear contract and complete the first summer addition to the squad.
Parra, 23, unexpectedly emerging as the first signing was reported by La Resistencia del Palau and confirmed by multiple sources.
Barca informed the Catalonia rival of paying the termination clause set at approximately one million euros, which technically must be delivered by the player himself.
Parra has been permitted to move on after a long spell from Badalona’s youth teams and being assigned to affiliate CB Prat to becoming a regular member of the senior team over the last four seasons.
In 2022-23, the Spanish forward tallied 12.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 0.6 steals per contest over 21 appearances in his fourth 7DAYS EuroCup campaign. Badalona was eliminated by another ACB participant and later crowned EuroCup champion Gran Canaria in the Semifinals.
At the domestic level, Parra averaged 9.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game over 40 appearances in Spain’s Liga Endesa. As the seventh seed in the Playoffs bracket, his side knocked out Cazoo Baskonia before falling to Real Madrid in four games in the Semifinals.
Earlier in the offseason, Barcelona named Roger Grimau as the new head coach. Obviously, further scanning the market would seek suitable replacements for Nikola Mirotic and Kyle Kuric. Rumored to be considering a contract extension offer under budget restrictions in place, Sertac Sanli is a candidate to run it back.
