An evergrowing dominating force in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Walter Tavares inserting himself among the highest-paid players in Europe will soon become a reality.
Tavares, 31, is nearing an agreement with Real Madrid on a contract extension, according to Eurohoops sources.
The previous situation and negotiations stalling, as reported by Eurohoops, reversed into the projected fruitful deal, set to make him one of the highest-paid players in the Old Continent.
The current contract lasting to the end of the 2023-24 season has a remaining value of four million euros gross. The new contract adjusting his salary will earn him a bigger payday in an effort to match his asking price of three million euros net.
Besides recently re-upping Argentine forward Gabriel Deck, the defending champions of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague are already set to reunite with Argentine guard Facundo Campazzo. Re-signing the Cape Verdean center is the next step toward strengthening the bid for a back-to-back EuroLeague triumph.
Providing in the championship run and being crowned EuroLeague champion for the second time, Tavares was additionally named EuroLeague Best Defender for the third time since joining the Whites in 2017. Averaging 11.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, 1.5 assists, and 0.9 steals per game over 40 appearances was the statistical contribution.
Madrid was swept by archrival FC Barcelona in the best-of-five championship series of Spain’s Liga Endesa with the experienced center packing 10.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest over 38 games played throughout the 2022-23 domestic campaign.
