Slowing down is far from the intentions of Marco Belinelli as the experienced swingman signed a two-year contract extension with Virtus Segafredo Bologna.
Belinelli, 37, committed to sticking around until the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, the team announced Friday.
“It was what I wanted, happy to continue to bring up the colors of Virtus Segafredo Bologna,” he explained his decision through the official press release of Virtus Bologna, “We still have a lot of work to do together.”
Since reuniting with the first team of his professional career in 2020, Belinelli was named captain and added plenty of team achievements to the extensive list of titles throughout his career. His efforts combined in winning the 7DAYS EuroCup championship and the LBA UnipolSai championship at the end of the 2020-21 season, besides lifting the Italian Supercup in both 2021 and 2022.
Displaying ageless qualities in 2022-23, the 2014 NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs tallied 10.0 points behind 40.7% from beyond the arc, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game. His sixth campaign in Europe’s premier club continental competition was actually his first since the 2006-07 run with Climamio Bologna. Guided by Sergio Scariolo, Virtus Bologna finished 14th overall packing a 14-20 record.
Also during the previous season, he made his way to 42 games in Italy’s top-flight division. Averaging 12.9 points per contest, his side reached the championship best-of-seven series but was edged out by EA7 Emporio Armani Milan.
