On September 17, Olympiacos will honor his legend Vassilis Spanoulis by retiring his number 7 forever, and today the opponent set to participate in that celebration game has been announced.
Vassilis Spanoulis, as remembered by Olimpia Milan on its official website, “is currently the EuroLeague all-time leading scorer with 4.455 points and one of only two players, the other being Nando De Colo, to have surpassed the 4,000-point mark during his career”. After retiring two years ago from basketball, the legendary Greek playmaker is now sitting on Peristeri’s bench.
“As an organization, Olimpia Milan is proud and honored to have the chance to participate in the Vassilis Spanoulis celebration game. He was an incredibly skilled player who was able to impact a generation of athletes and fans all over Europe with his clutch plays, creativity, and longevity”, Ettore Messina commented on the news.
The legendary head coach went on talking about Kill Bill. “I never had the opportunity to coach him but I experienced the toughness of coaching against a great player who was a nightmare for me and for any coach. However, he was not just a fantastic competitor and a winner but also a classy opponent and human being. For me personally and for Olimpia Milan, September 17 will be a special opportunity to celebrate a true champion”, the leader of the reigning Italian champions added.
The Italian team announced that another friendly game played behind closed doors, will take place against the Greek powerhouse two days before, on September 15.
