Interviewed by Mundo Deportivo’s Tony Canyameras, the 18-year-old Nigerian talent James Nnaji talked about his future with Barcelona and his experience at the 2023 Summer League with the Charlotte Hornets, which acquired him from the Detroit Pistons after being selected with the No.31 overall pick.
“According to the information I have, I’m going to continue for another year. But neither do I want to say yes nor no, we have to see how everything goes, the circumstances, depend on what happens in the Summer League. But for now, I would say yes”, he said on his future with FC Barcelona.
However, it mainly depends on whether the Charlotte Hornets decide upon him staying in the NBA or not. “They want to look at more options, they have not told me that I’m the first, but anything can happen as I have said. There are also other issues like the team’s cap space and they have a full roster. They want to wait for a better situation, that’s why they talk to me for about a year”, James Nnaji added.
In the 2022-23 EuroLeague, James Nnaji averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in 19 total appearances with the Catalan team, winning the ACB League as well. So far at the 2023 Summer League with the Charlotte Hornets, instead, he grabbed 8 rebounds against Victor Wembanyama’s Sant Antonio Spurs while having 6 points and 4 rebounds in his second appearance against the Lakers.
