Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet emerged as the next Turkish Airlines EuroLeague challenge for Mike Tobey.
Tobey, 28, signed a one-year contract, the team announced Friday.
FC Barcelona officially confirmed his departure earlier Friday. The American–born naturalized Slovenian center spent the 2022-23 season at the Catalonia giant making his way to 58 games played across all competitions. He tallied 5.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.2 steals, and 0.2 blocks per EuroLeague game over 31 appearances. In Spain’s Liga Endesa, his contributions of 4.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest helped in winning the ACB championship.
The former Virginia standout previously focused his career in Spain’s top-tier division from Valencia and Iberostar Tenerife to Barca. Back in his first professional campaign, in 2016-17 he logged two NBA appearances with the Charlotte Hornets and also played in the G League with the Greensboro Swarm, prior to moving his talents overseas. Success includes winning the 2017 FIBA Intercontinental Cup to go with being named MVP with Tenerife, plus championship runs in the 7DAYS EuroCup and ACB spread across the two stints at Valencia. Securing a Slovenian passport permitted his participation in the 2020 Olympic Games and 2022 EuroBasket alongside Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic.
Joining Dejan Davidovac, Adam Hanga, Marko Simonovic, and Milos Teodosic on the list of off-season newcomers, the Belgrade outfit confirms the latest boost to the roster. Another move saw Luka Mitrovic ink a contract extension to stay with the team coached by Dusko Ivanovic.
