Panathinaikos Athens paid a buyout to Joventut Badalona to acquire guard Kyle Guy. The 25-year-old American player signed a two-year deal, the Greens announced and will debut in EuroLeague with his new team.
Guy was the player that Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman wanted to add to the team’s backcourt lineup. He averaged 11.8 points, 2.6 assists, 1.7 rebounds over 21 games in EuroCup to help Badalona make the semifinals while putting up 12.8 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 rebounds over 40 appearances in the Spanish ACB League during his maiden season outside the USA.
In the ACB, playoffs, Guy had a particularly impressive stretch of games, during which he made 21 3-pointers over three matches vs. Baskonia and Real Madrid. After the end of the season in Spain, Valencia extended him an offer but Badalona matched it to retain his rights in ACB.
Before arriving in Europe, Guy played in 53 games with the Sacramento Kings and the Miami Heat from 2019 to 2022. In 2019, he won the NCAA championship with the Virginia Cavaliers.
In 2022-23, Guy, a former NCAA champion in 2019, averaged 11.8 points, 2.6 assists, 1.7 rebounds over 21 games in EuroCup as Badalona made the semifinals. In Spain, he posted 12.8 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 40 appearances.
