Crvena Zvezda’s reported interest in Barcelona guard and two-time EuroLeague champion Cory Higgins took a turn towards something more official during the club’s general assembly meeting Wednesday (19/7).
According to Sporski Zurnal, the general assembly discussed the possibility of signing Higgins and it was pointed out that the physical condition of the American player is being checked. Higgins underwent a season-ending back surgery early in May.
Higgins, 34, has one year left in a three-year contract extension he signed with Barcelona in 2021 but the club is reportedly not considering the player ahead of the new season. Zvezda, deep in a massive roster rebuilt mode with multiple signings and some impressive transfers, could be adding Higgins, depending on how they’ll evaluate his health status.
In 2019, Higgins joined Barcelona after a stellar run with CSKA Moscow. He emerged as one of the elite scoring guards in the competition and had an important contribution to CSKA winning the 2016 and 2019 championship titles.
Zvezda already signed Higgins’ Barcelona teammate Mike Tobey this summer. The American big man is one of the many new acquisitions of the Serbian powerhouse, along with such names as Milos Teodosic, Shabazz Napier, Joel Bolomboy, Rokas Giedraitis and Yago dos Santos.
