A massive boost for LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in the form of Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot
Luwawu-Cabarrot, 28, signed a one-year contract to join the team of his home country, France, as announced by ASVEL Thursday evening.
“A huge addition,” commented team president Tony Parker, “We are proud to attract one the best active French players.”
Following Boris Dallo, John Egbunu, Frank Jackson, Mbaye Ndiaye, Paris Lee, and Mike Scott, ASVEL brings in yet another newcomer. Returning from a loan, youngster Noam Yaacov also adds to the team coached by T.J. Parker alongside returning stars the likes of Nando De Colo, Youssoupha Fall, Charles Kahudi, David Lighty, and Joffrey Lauvergne.
“I know Timothe very well and I have no doubts about him bringing everything he can to the team,” added the retired player commenting on the most recent summer signing of the team based in Villeurbanne, a suburb of Lyon, France, “I am very happy that he was able to trust our project. I can’t wait to see him wear our jersey.”
Returning to Europe after 343 games played in the NBA from 2016 to 2022, Luwawu-Cabarrot signed with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan last November. Introducing himself to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the premier club continental competition of Europe, he tallied 9.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.6 steals per contest over 24 appearances, including 17 starts under legendary tactician Ettore Messina.
Back in 2016, he was selected with the 24th overall pick of the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, as the latest promising youngster coming out of Mega Leks. Besides the Sixers, other stops in the NBA stretched to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, and Atlanta Hawks.
