ALBA Berlin has officially announced the acquisition of Matt Thomas, the former guard for Valencia and Panathinaikos, for a one-year contract.
The US player becomes the second addition to Israel Gonzales’ team this summer, following rookie Justin Bean. Additionally, Jonas Mattisseck and Christ Koumadje have also secured new deals.
Matt Thomas embarked on his professional journey by signing his inaugural contract in the summer of 2017 with the Spanish ACB team Monbus Obradoiro. After an impressive individual season, he joined Valencia Basket for the 2018/19 season and swiftly clinched the EuroCup championship, triumphing over ALBA in the finals.
Subsequently, he ventured into the NBA with the Toronto Raptors. He later played for the Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls before making his return to Europe at the beginning of 2023 with Panathinaikos. In his ten EuroLeague appearances for the Greek team, he averaged 8.1 points (with a 40% accuracy from beyond the arc) and secured two rebounds while playing an average of 18 minutes.
