David Blatt is currently in Indonesia, observing FIBA World Cup games, and, in the meantime, Maccabi Tel Aviv made an announcement updating his role in the club.
According to Maccabi’s press release, ‘David Blatt continues his involvement with Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club. He will do so in a different capacity from previous seasons due to medical reasons.’
Last summer, Blatt returned to Maccabi in an advisory role, specifically as the chairman of the professional committee and an external consultant. However, it appears that his future obligations will be scaled back due to his health condition.
Blatt was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis in 2019, and soon after, he announced his retirement from coaching.
Blatt is a highly decorated coach with an impressive track record, including victories in the EuroLeague, and Eurocup, multiple titles in Israel, the ABA League, the Italian championship, and a gold medal with the Russian National Team at Eurobasket in 2007.
With several foreign players landing in Tel Aviv, the Yellows are launching preparations for the 2023-24 editions of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and domestic competitions in Israel.
