Baskonia has expressed an interest in free-agent Latvian guard Arturs Zagars, one of the standout players of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, according to El Correo.
Zagars, 23, is currently leading Latvia in both points and assists in the World Championship with 14.2 and 6.0 respectively. He helped his national team make the quarterfinals of the competition for the first time in history and had 24 points plus eight assists in the 79 – 81 loss to Germany in the Top 8.
One of Zagars’ top World Cup performances took place against France in just the second game in the tournament. He posted 22 points plus five assists in a big win that secured Latvia’s qualification to the next round while eliminating Les Bleus.
Zagars made 43 appearances in the Spanish ACB League with Joventut Badalona from 2017 to 2021. He spent the previous season with Lithuanian League team Nevezis.
