Greek EuroLeague sides Panathinaikos Athens and Olympiacos Piraeus dropped their latest preseason games to Cedevita Olimpija and Promitheas Patras respectively. Both teams played without several key players due to World Cup or injury problems.
Cedevita beat Panathinaikos 90 – 79 in Ljubljana behind Karlo Matkovic’s 17 points plus eight rebounds. Amadou Sow had 15 points and Rok Radovic scored 12 points.
Marius Grigonis (18 points) and Olek Balcerowski (15 points) stood out for Panathinaikos that was minus Juancho Hernangomez, Mathias Lessort, Ioannis Papapetrou and Dinos Mitoglou. Greens head coach Ergin Ataman was also absent, being in Istanbul for a personal matter.
In Patras, local Promitheas beat Olympiacos 61 – 45 in a game held behind closed doors. The match ended prematurely when Reds guard George Pappas was injured in the second half and after his teammate Alec Peters hurt his shoulder 11 minutes into the game.
Moustapha Fall, Shaq McKissic, Nikola Milutinov, Nigel Williams-Goss were among Olympiacos‘ absences.
Hunter Hale led Promitheas with 14 points. Peters had 11 points for Olympiacos.
