With Icelandic guard Martin Hermannsson on the injury list, Valencia appears to be acquiring Stefan Jovic from Casademont Zaragoza.
The Serbian floor general is finalizing a deal with the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague outfit, Spanish international news agency EFE reported Wednesday. Encestando later confirmed the deal, noting a 250,000 euro buyout.
Jovic, 32, is expected to sign a contract for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. A veteran of 127 features in EuroLeague games, he will return to Europe’s premier club continental competition following the four appearances in the 2021-22 edition as a member of Panathinaikos.
Hermannsson, 28, will miss approximately three months in recovery from the recent surgery in his left knee. He also missed most of the 2022-23 season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the same knee, before resuming action late in the campaign.
Stefan Jovic is coming in hot
Representing Serbia in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Jovic was among the key contributors to the team coached by Svetislav Pesic. His efforts were rewarded with a silver medal. Averaging 5.9 points and 5.6 assists per game painted the statistical picture of his eight appearances between Quezon City and Pasay, Philippines.
Before launching the training camp, Valencia completed six additions to the squad. Brandon Davies, Damien Inglis, Semi Ojeleye, Nate Reuvers, Kassius Robertson, and Boubacar Toure form the list of newcomers, pending Jovic.
The team coached by Alex Mumbru is currently preparing for the 2023-24 edition of EuroLeague and domestic competitions in Spain.
