Coming back to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague after 12 years, Serge Ibaka is officially announced as the newest Bayern Munich’s player, completing Pablo Laso’s roster for the 2023-24 season.
The 33-year-old power forward, who last played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2022-23 season – averaging 4.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game -, was selected by the Seattle Supersonics with the 24th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.
Standing out as one of the most interesting bigs in Europe with BAXI Manresa in the 2008-09 season, he then moved to the NBA. Once there, he played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Orlando Magic, the Toronto Raptors, the Los Angeles Clippers, and finally the Milwaukee Bucks.
“For me, it is a privilege to join this historic, globally renowned sports club, so that the basketball team can rise to the top of Europe. I had a long NBA career, but I approach this new chapter with a lot of enthusiasm – I still have a lot of fire in me and love the game. The fact that Pablo Laso is the coach was also a decisive factor for me. To me, he is one of the best coaches in the world”, the experienced Spanish International said on the German club’s official website.
Then, Bayern’s president Herbert Hainer also commented on the newest acquisition. “We are incredibly proud and happy that such a highly decorated athlete like Serge Ibaka believes in our journey. We are convinced that he will not only be a tremendous asset in terms of sports but also a enrichment for German basketball. I am certain that our young players will greatly benefit from his vast experience”, he said.
