Fenerbahce defeated MBA in the opening game of the VTB Super Cup

The trio of Jonathan Motley, Sertac Sanli, and Giorgos Papagiannis dominated, as Fenerbahce got the 94-79 win over MBA Moscow in the first quarterfinal for the VTB Super Cup, held in Russia.

Motley (21 p.), Sanli (18 p.), and Papagiannis (16 p.) were the three scorers of Fenerbahce in double digits as the Turkish club after a tied first half (43-43) got a 70-57 lead in the third period and never looked back. 

To be exact, Papagiannis’ performance at the start of the third quarter was a key factor in Fenerbahce’s win. The Greek center had 11 points, two assists, and one rebound in 10 minutes, making a difference.

It was the first time that former CSKA Moscow coach Dimitris Itoudis returned to Russia, sitting on the bench of the Turkish club.

In the second game of the day, Lokomotive Kuban got the 100-98 win over CSKA Moscow despite 44 points by Casper Ware and will face Fenerbahce in the first semifinal.

On the other two quarterfinals Nizhny Novgorod beat UNICS Kazan (86-82) and Zenit St. Petersburg prevailed over Besiktas (72-69).
