Maccabi Tel Aviv prevailed over Crvena Zvezda 112-109 after two overtimes in the opening game of the “Neophytos Chandriotis” preseason tournament held annually in Cyprus.
Bonzie Colson scored 18 points, Romain Sorkin had 17 points and Wade Baldwin dropped 14 points of his own for Maccabi. After a very long battle, the Israeli powerhouse opened the second extra period in a dominant fashion to go up 110-103 and secure the win.
For Zvezda, Nemanja Nedovic and Luka Mitrovic scored 23 points apiece. Newcomer Rokas Giedraitis contributed 22 points.
The first day of the tournament will conclude with the game between Olympiacos Piraeus and Zalgiris Kaunas. On Saturday, Zvezda will face Zalgiris (15:45 CET) and Olympiacos will play against Maccabi (18:00 CET).
