Sharing an update, Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv reveals intentions to base the team in Cyprus

Cyprus emerged as the next stop for the players of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv.

The foreign players will fly to Cyprus and will be joined by the remaining members of the squad over the next few days, the Yellows announced Sunday evening.

Due to the ongoing conflict in Israel and the decision to pause sporting events in the country, Maccabi did not play host to Ironi Kiryat Lati Ata on Sunday. Besides the suspension of Israel’s Winner League Regular Season Round 1 affair, Euroleague Basketball confirmed the suspension of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 2 contest opposite EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, originally scheduled to be held in Mediolanum Forum on Thursday.

Beyond basing the team in Cyprus and potentially paving the way to resume action as soon as possible, additional plans to continue the 2023-24 campaign at the continental and domestic level are pending, largely depending on the armed conflict in Israel. However, Partizan Mozzart Bet rushed to present Maccabi with the opportunity to use practice facilities and play home games in Belgrade.

Apart from Maccabi’s next EuroLeague game, Euroleague Basketball also suspended the BKT EuroCup Regular Season Round 2 game between Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv and Wolves, originally scheduled for Wednesday.

Opening the 2023-24 edition of Europe’s premier club continental competition, Maccabi defeated Partizan last Thursday. Competing for the Winner League Cup, the team coached by Oded Kattash reached the final but lost to Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem last week.
