After detecting a testicular neoplasm and undergoing surgery, Achille Polonara will now have to go through a cycle of chemotherapy which will “keep him out of the court for the next four weeks”, as officially announced by Virtus Bologna, postponing his return to action to at least the end of November.
Returning to Italy after rocking the jerseys of Baskonia, Fenerbahce, Anadolu Efes, and Zalgiris Kaunas, he went scoreless in the EuroLeague opener against the Lithuanian team, losing the first game of the European season. In the LBA, he has averaged 6.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game thus far.
Virtus Bologna has started the 2023-24 EuroLeague Regular Season on a high note, perfectly completing the first double-game week of this year’s competition and going up 3-1 in the standings, just behind the unbeaten duo composed of Barcelona and Real Madrid, tying with Valencia, Zalgiris, and Fenerbahce.
