Monaco started the season without one of its key players, with Jordan Loyd on the sidelines recovering from lumbar spine surgery. However, the US guard is back training with the team, and could make a season debut in the Euroleague Round 5 against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
He was supposed to play during the weekend against SIG Strasbourg in Betclic Elite, but skiped it, and Sasa Obradovic is still uncertain will he get minutes agaist Maccabi. If not, the clash against Gravelines could mark his return to the court.
“The content of our training was good but we did not manage to implement it on the floor against Valencia and Bologna. We must find the automatisms that we had last year. It’s a new season that begins today with the return of Jordan Loyd. It’s a good problem because he’s a key player who needs to get back into shape and get back to his habits. I don’t know yet if he will play against Maccabi, we’re thinking. On the other hand, he should be there against Gravelines. The only cure is time,” Obradovic said.
Loyd had a great first season with the Roca team, averaging 12,3 points and 2,7 assist in EuroLeague. He was also one of the key players in the playoff series vs Maccabi, where he scored a career-high 33 points in Game 2 win.
