Baskonia forward Chima Moneke is the guest on the second episode of the new edition of Eurohoops’ official podcast EurohooPOD.
Moneke talks to Antonis Stroggylakis and Cesare Milanti about emerging as Baskonia’s leading scorer, Vitoria fans and feeding off of their passion, his respect for fired coach Joan Penarroya, and his first impressions of Dusko Ivanovic.
“I think everyone heard the rumors for one week or two before it happened. I was surprised about the rumors, as a player this is the first time I’ve played under a team that has fired the coach during the season. I think what makes it even sadder is the way he handled himself throughout the whole situation was incredible and very professional. I admired him so much. I need a coach that is a good person as well, and [Joan] Peñarroya was that”, he said about the former Baskonia head coach.
The 2022 Basketball Champions League MVP, All-BCL Team, and All-ACB Team member, Moneke opens up on overcoming adversities since his career beginnings, constantly proving doubters wrong, the Nigerian national team, and a disrespectful moment in 2021, his friendship with TJ Shorts and reveals what are the two dreams he has for his career.
“TJ Shorts is my actual absolute best friend in the world. We have a Snapchat streak that goes over five years now: it’s crazy. I’m not surprised by anything he’s doing. To me, he’s the best player in Europe that’s not in the EuroLeague. I feel like he should be in the EuroLeague this season”, Chima Moneke commented on Paris Basketball’s playmaker.
