Midway through his second campaign in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Freddie Gillespie switched teams from FC Bayern Munich to Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet.
Both Turkish Airlines EuroLeague outfits confirmed the transfer on Monday. His contract lasts until the end of the 2023-24 season, noted the team based in Belgrade.
“I really loved playing for FC Bayern Basketball,” mentioned Gillespie, per the official announcement of the German club, “The love and support from the fans and everyone in the organization is something truly special. It was not always easy on the court, but everything was worth it. I’ll always be grateful for my time in Munich.”
Coming out of 29 games played in the NBA between the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors, he used overseas options and moved his talents to Bayern before the 2022-23 season. Over 47 appearances in the EuroLeague, he averaged 3.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per contest, including 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game over 13 appearances in the 2023-24 Regular Season. At the domestic level, he produced 3.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest over 41 games played in Germany’s easyCredit BBL, besides a massive contribution to winning BBL-Pokal in February.
Following necessary medical tests, the Minnesota native will join team practices under the guidance of Giannis Sfairopoulos. His new side sits at 5-9 in the EuroLeague’s Regular Season, trailing the Play-In zone by two games. In regional competition, the 11-1 record leads the AdmiralBet ABA League.
