Fenerbahce Beko opted for a change after a series of bad results, appointing Sarunas Jasikevicius instead of Dimitris Itoudis.
Talking to Lithuanian media after three wins in his first coaching role since leaving Barcelona last summer, Jasikevicius refused to comment on his former team.
“I don’t even want to talk about Barcelona. Maybe the time will come, and I will say something. But I was taught that if you don’t have something good to say, it’s better not to speak,” the Lithuanian tactician said.
Another interesting aspect of the conversation with his fellow countryman was the speculations linking him to a return to Zalgiris before accepting the call from Fenerbahce. He even admitted he planned to rest this season.
“This year, there was no idea to work at all, despite your wrong information about other teams. You really get angry when someone tells you this, but you need more responsibility. Friends called, they said: ‘Why didn’t you take 1.5 million from Zalgiris?’ I say: ‘Interesting,’” Jasikevicius told Lithuanian media, smiling, and continued in the same manner.
“You are sore when Zalgiris gets angry with you, but you also have to take some responsibility for false news because, especially in Lithuania, people expect correct information from you. There was no idea to work this year, but it would be difficult to refuse 1.5 million from Zalgiris.“
