Finishing the year with seven defeats in 10 games is not ideal, but Barcelona is not expected to make a coaching change.
At least that’s what general manager and EuroLeague legend Juan Carlos Navarro, said in a video message published on the last day of 2023.
“The first part of the season has been very good, even more than our expectations”, said Navarro the message, admitting however that things have changed.
However, Navarro’s message seems more focused on players than the coach Roger Grimau: “This month of December has had a series of defeats, and there are some things that we have to change. There have been attitudes, both on and off the court that we did not like, they are not worthy of this club and this jersey. These are things that have already been discussed, that will be fixed, and will not happen again. All the players have to take a step forward because we have to change this dynamic.”
Speaking directly about Grimau, Navarro wants to put an end to the rumors about a possible dismission: “It’s a new project where Roger is our reference point and he’s still doing it, he’s doing a great job. We are aware that he is trying to do everything to make the team work and we trust him.”
