Establishing himself as one of the most consistent and effective shooters in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Olympiacos’ shooting guard Isaiah Canaan spoke to the official competition’s website, commenting on several topics.
Touching on the Greek side, with which he went all the way to last year’s EuroLeague Final, where he had 21 points with 5/6 from beyond the arc, he had nothing but great words. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else at this part of my career. My ambition and my goal is to have every chance and opportunity that I can to win a EuroLeague title.
This season, he has been averaging 12.3 points with excellent shooting percentages (50.0% from two, 50.0% from three, and 83.9% at the line), and his goal is to bring back the glorious Greek side to the Final Four, scheduled for 2024 in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin. “I got a taste of that last season and I want to continue and do whatever I can to get back“, he recalled last season’s experience.
Coming to Piraeus in the summer of 2022, he has been useful for Georgios Bartzokas’ team straight from the beginning. “It’s pretty nice working with Coach. He allows you to be who you are through the team’s system and rules. He pushes you to try to bring out the best version of you, regardless of who you are or where you come from. He is big on team concepts”, he commented on Olympiacos’ head coach.
Debuting in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague in the 2021-22 season after one year in the EuroCup with UNICS Kazan, he had great times with the Russian team after a long career in the NBA, playing mostly for the Houston Rockets and the Philadelphia 76ers. “You’ve just gotta branch out and be open to learning new things, and experiencing new things, trying not to compare it to being at home because it’s totally different”, he commented on coming to play overseas.
