ASVEL Villeurbanne announced that the club signed veteran forward DeShaun Thomas to a contract for the rest of the 2023-24 season. This is the first move the French team makes after firing head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco.
Thomas returns to the EuroLeague where he previously had stints with Barcelona, Anadolu Efes, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Panathinaikos, Bayern Munich and Olimpia Milano. He was last a member of Joventut Badalona, averaging 13.4 points in EuroCup and 15.0 points in the Spanish ACB League.
By joining ASVEL, Thomas is also reunited with former Ohio State and Nanterre teammate David Lighty.
19 games into the EuroLeague regular season, ASVEL is tied with ALBA Berlin at 3 – 16, the worst record in the competition. In the French League, the team is 12-5, sharing the third spot in the standings with Paris Basketball.
