Since returning to Barcelona from his NBA campaign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Alex Abrines hasn’t really had good luck with injuries, being forced to miss several games in Europe and Spain.
The latest bad news was officially announced by the Catalan team, who communicated the Spanish national team member is currently suffering from groin pain, and his availability will be determined by upcoming progress in the next few weeks.
Being sidelined since December 15 in the EuroLeague and December 17 in the ACB, he missed Barcelona’s latest five games in the EuroLeague. The Spanish team is currently 3rd with a record of 13-6, behind Real Madrid and Virtus Bologna.
In the 2023-24 EuroLeague Regular Season, he has been averaging 6.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game for Roger Grimau’s team, mostly coming off the bench. The experienced 30-year-old forward is shooting with excellent percentages: 55.0% from two-point range, 44.7% from beyond the arc, and 88.9% at the line.
Coming back to Barcelona in 2019, he has now won a total of seven trophies with the Catalan side: three ACB League (2013-14, 2020-21, 2022-23), three Copa del Rey (2013, 2021, 2022), and one Spanish Supercup (2015). He previously played for Malaga as well in the 2011-12 season.
