After announcing his retirement from the NBA with an emotional letter, Ricky Rubio is slowly taking steps to come back to the court. However, he won’t return straight to playing action, making a necessary step in between.
With a message on his social media profile, he officially said he would return to a familiar place in Catalunya. “Hello everyone. I wanted to communicate with you along these lines that the time has come to enter the final phase of my recovery I’ve been going around for a few weeks now, and after a long time working body and mind, I see myself with desire and strength to see how I react with a ball in my hands”, he first said.
Then, it was time for the official announcement. “My next step was to ask FC Barcelona if I could, without any commitment and without interrupting their seasonal plans, train with them. I want to thank in advance for the help and understanding of my situation. Finally, I wanted to thank everyone who has shown their respect and support in this process, as well as I appreciate the respect for my privacy in this journey”, the Spanish magician also added.
The Catalan club also communicated the news with an official press release, announcing the 33-year-old to take part in tomorrow’s team’s training ahead of the important EuroLeague clash against Virtus Bologna, scheduled on January 31 in Palau Blaugrana.
Ricky Rubio played with FC Barcelona from 2009 to 2011 after making his presence felt with Joventut Badalona, where he debuted in 2005. From then on, he started a 13-year NBA career with Minnesota, Utah, Phoenix, and finally Cleveland.
