Heading to the Italian league appointment at home against Napoli, Virtus Bologna was coming off a difficult and tiring clash with Fenerbahce but still made it against Igor Milicic’s team. In the post-game press conference, Luca Banchi slammed the EuroLeague format. His words were first collected by Sportando.

Asked about the upcoming appointments of his team, the Italian head coach brought out criticism regarding the EuroLeague schedule. “This schedule kills the game and endangers the health of the players, we should reflect but I do not know if there is the will to listen”, the Italian head coach said.

Virtus Bologna is now scheduled to face the double-game week in the EuroLeague by traveling to Barcelona first on Wednesday and hosting Partizan Belgrade later on Friday. “We have important competitions ahead of us, but we must have the lucidity to analyze the situation in a broader vision from almost 80 games of the season”, Luca Banchi added.

The Italian head coach touched also on the conditions of Ognjen Dobric and Tornike Shengelia. “We will evaluate day by day, for a gradual reintegration and calculated risks”, he said. The black-and-white Italian team won’t only focus on the domestic league clashes or the games in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, but also on the Italian Cup Final Eight, from February 14-19 in Turin.

Mike James reacted to Virtus Bologna’s head coach on Twitter, quoting the article made by Sportando on the matter. “I love coach [Luca] Banchi, but I have to disagree. You prepare your body in the offseason and reinforce it during the season to get through the season. You put in the work and your body will respond. There are always exceptions to this but none less. Players have to put in the work”, the EuroLeague superstar commented.
