Maccabi Tel Aviv invited EuroLeague Basketball competitions director Diego Guillen to Israel as a part of the club’s efforts to once again hold games of the league at home this season, as reported by ONE.
The purpose of the invitation was for a prominent EuroLeague official to get a first-hand impression of the current situation in Tel Aviv, including the day-to-day life, and see if the conditions can allow the return of the competition to the city. During his visit, Guillen also attended the Israeli Winner League derby between Maccabi and Hapoel Tel Aviv (a 95 – 78 win for the Yellows).
Maccabi has been playing all of its EuroLeague home games in Belgrade, Serbia following the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7 that began a new war on Gaza, Palestine. The Israeli powerhouse hosted only one game in Menora Mivtachim this season, the opener against Partizan Belgrade.
At the moment of the EuroLeague midseason break, Maccabi is tied with Valencia at 13 – 13 and the ninth place in the standings.
