Being only 29 points away from overcoming Vassilis Spanoulis and becoming the All-Time Leading Scorer in EuroLeague history, Mike James is close to writing an unprecedented chapter in the European competition. In a press conference before the start of the Leaders Cup, he addressed his future with his words collected by BeBasket.
“My next contract will probably be my last”, he first said, also addressing the fact that he’s not feeling the same vibes as when he started his professional career. “As much as I love basketball, I sometimes get tired of being a basketball player, if that makes sense”, Mike James added.
Commenting on “the end of his basketball chapter”, the 33-year-old American guard shared that he could stay at AS Monaco after his current contract expires. “It’s possible. I will be free at the end of the season. We’ll take the time to chat at some point”, he said about staying in the Principality.
Joining the Monegasque side back in September 2021 for the team’s first season in the EuroLeague, he then reached the 2023 EuroLeague Final Four. “I don’t know when it will happen, the season is still long but we live in the same place, and they know how to reach me. We’ll have a conversation and see what we can do”, the former CSKA Moscow, Milano, and Panathinaikos superstar also added.
Playing one of his best individual seasons since moving overseas, Mike James has been averaging 19.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 50.0% from two-point range and 42.3% from beyond the arc. Sasa Obradovic’s team is now 4th in the EuroLeague at 16-10.
