Adding to a lengthy discussion about Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet, team president Nebojsa Covic talked about boosting the squad and Nikola Jovic of the Miami Heat.
Covic, 65, initially opened up about the previous offseason in an appearance on the Luka and Kuzma podcast. Besides questioning the offseason decisions regarding the 2023-24 roster by former head coach Dusko Ivanovic, he was optimistic about improved choices alongside new head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos for next summer.
“I will say about one, Nikola Kalinic, in whom we are interested,” he revealed.
“We didn’t sell him; he left for free,” Covic referred to the experienced small forward moving from the team based in Belgrade to FC Barcelona in 2022, “He had a 1+1 contract, and we were late with his wages by four or five months. The man waited; there was a promise. We didn’t finish it, and he went to Barcelona. We are working on it, as much as we can, respecting that he is a Barcelona player.”
The Zvezda president also revealed interest in Heat’s Jovic and Valencia’s experienced floor general Stefan Jovic.
“There are still our players that we would like to see. What we are doing, we are doing in agreement with Sfairopoulos. We are also considering Stefan Jovic, but only if he can secure continuity. We are also interested in Nikola Jović; I wish him every success in the NBA, but if he doesn’t play there, I would like to see him here,” he mentioned.
