American-born, naturalized Senegalese player Pierria Henry, who last suited up for Baskonia on January 10th, 2023, got suspended by FIBA for having used a Prohibited Method for 48 months.
Henry was officially listed in the section dedicated to anti-doping disciplinary sanctions, but the 31-year-old guard is determined to prove his innocence and announced he will appeal the FIBA decision.
“To my friends and family near and far, I’d like to send the most heartfelt and sincerest appreciation for all the patience, love, and support that you all have given me over the past year. While the FIBA panel has come to a ruling, I’d like you all to know that I do not agree with the decision and will continue to fight to prove my innocence regarding this case by submitting an appeal. I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve missed the game, my fans, and teammates during this time away, but I want to reassure you that I haven’t given up. I look forward to seeing all of you again,” Henry wrote on Instagram.
Moving overseas in 2015, Pierria Henry spent time with Ulm, Hapoel Eilat, Tofas Bursa, and UNICS Kazan, then spent the 2021-22 season with Fenerbahce and signed for only a few days with the Houston Rockets before returning to Baskonia in October 2022.
He recorded a total of 100 EuroLeague games with Baskonia and Fenerbahce, averaging nine points, 5.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds. Henry was a Turkish champion in 2022 with Fenerbahce and won the ACB League with Baskonia in 2020. The 31-year-old also received EuroCup MVP honors in 2019 and was twice the EuroLeague steals leader (2020, 2021).
