After the triumphant Serbian Cup, Crvena Zvezda will continue the season in the EuroLeague on the road against Bayern Munich (01/03), but coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos won’t be able to count on Milos Teodosic.
The experienced point guard and the Serbian Cup MVP is recovering from an injury and won’t be able to help his team in Round 27 of the top continental competition.
“Teodosic hasn’t been training since the Cup; he’s not ready to play. He forced himself to play because it was the final, but now he’s in rehabilitation. We won’t use him until he’s 100 percent ready,” Sfairopoulos said.
Nikola Topic is still out, though he’s on the way to recovery, while newly signed Trey Thompkins will wait a bit more for his debut.
“Topic and Thompkins are recovering; they are much better, already on the court, but not practicing individually yet; that’s the next step, and after that team practice. Doctors are very careful; we don’t want to rush. They need to strengthen their muscles, working in the weight lifting room, and slowly, and I hope to see them on the court.”
Crvena Zvezda signed Thompkins on a one-month deal, with the option until the end of the season, but the former Real Madrid player is still not ready to play.
“We are in cooperation with the doctors. We want to have him in the best condition. He is in the last part of rehabilitation. Doctors are very positive, and we want to keep him until the end to play for us,” explained the Crvena Zvezda coach.
