After spraining his right ankle on Thursday and undergoing an MRI on Friday, Tornike Shengelia will be monitored daily by Virtus Segafredo Bologna.
Shengelia, 32, was injured during the home game against Valencia. Limited to just over six minutes, he missed two shots, grabbed two rebounds, and dished out one assist before being forced to an early exit. However, the team coached by Luca Banchi quickly got in control en route to a win in Round 27 of the Regular Season.
Producing 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.2 blocks per EuroLeague contest makes a large chunk of a team-high performance index rating of 17.4. Standing out in a team W-L tally of 17-10, his efforts fueled a run toward the Playoffs and a solid bid for homecourt advantage.
In Italy’s LBA UnipolSai, Shengelia is averaging 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game over 16 appearances. Behind a 15-5 run, his side ranks second, one game behind Germani Brescia with ten outings left on the double-legged round-robin schedule, before the Playoffs.
Moving forward, the Georgian forward is considered questionable for the next games in a day-to-day situation. In Round 28 of the EuroLeague, the Bologna outfit visits Olympiacos on Thursday, after an away fixture opposite Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari in Round 21 of the LBA UnipolSai Regular Season on Sunday.
Besides Devontae Cacok being ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury, all remaining players are available.
